Jesse Leach Comments On Times Of Grace Side Project, KSE Rumors Heat Up

The Empire Shall Fall frontman Jesse Leach has offered the following short update on the status of his upcoming Times Of Grace side project with Killswitch Engage guitarist Adam Dutkiewicz:

“Still do not know when the CD will be out, I assume 2010..but the record industry is much more difficult to deal with than it was 5-10 years ago…they have these things called 360 deals…trying to avoid that…also: have no fear if you are a person who enjoy soulful epic music…you will be satisfied…in the meantime THE EMPIRE SHALL FALL… much love to all!”

In other news, rumors are heating up that Leach will temporarily re-take his old position as the frontman for Killswitch Engage at the bands March 18th and 19th New York stops. Currently All That Remains‘s Phil Labonte has been handling the vocalist duties for the band while Howard Jones attends to some personal issues.

I’m only a fan of Alive Or Just Breathing and The End Of Heartache, so that’s a bit of both right there, but I think musically they got better with TEOH, so I’d agree and say that’s when they clicked. I pretty much think the last two albums have been butt-rock, and as much as everyone loves Howard’s voice and range, it’s just not my thing. I loved him on TEOH but could care less after that because I think the music got weak.

I dig all the KSE albums except for the newest one is pretty weak.
And I think Howard fits in with the band quite nicely, but they will surely never top AOJB unless Jesse comes back. That album was one of the best and most important in the last decade for sure.

    • Nothing from KSE’s catalog touches their self titled (original with Jesse) and AOJB. The albums with Howard, particuarly As Daylight Dies, simply didn’t have the power those earlier albums did. Howard’s a more versatile vocalist but frankly I think Jesse’s throat-shredding scream is better. I like The End of Heartache and the new self titled, but I’m not sure anything the band ever does will be reminiscent of AOJB ever again.

    • I agree with the above two posts. I like KsE (I can even tolerate the latest album), but Howard’s presence steered them in a new direction, with a few new steps taken on each album. IMHO, the problem is the over-reliance on repetitive breakdowns every 5 seconds with the same sappy melodic vocal refrain (just check out Reckoning for an example). This trend began subtly with TEOH, flared up on ADD, and really cripples KsE II. Contrast that with the first 2 albums, which rely much more on aggression and Gothenburg melodeath. Damn, now I’m getting sad, remembering when I first bought and listened to AOJB in ’02.
