Alexisonfire spent some time in the studio this past week re-recording some of their older songs for an as-yet unannounced purpose. The group laid down nine songs in total with more details expected in the coming weeks.

My guess is they are re-recording older songs so they have the individual guitar, drum, and vocal tracks for use on the Rock Band Network so they can upload the songs into the game themselves.
Ganglor: i was thinking the same thing, but why re-record so many older tracks? you’d think the band/label would be most interested in having songs from the newest album featured in the game? or will the RB network allow bands to upload songs themselves, so that they can upload as many songs as they want?
Vegard: Rock Band Network allows both musical artists and record labels to upload as many songs as they want to the network as long as they pay for the XNA license and the music charting software. I am guessing that Alexisonfire completely owns the rights to their older songs so this would be a great way to make some extra cash. If I’ve heard correctly though, they’ll only receive around 25 to 30 percent of the actual purchase price of each song sold so who knows if they would actually go to all of this trouble for that.
