Avenged Sevenfold Drummer Found Dead

Avenged Sevenfold drummer James Owen Sullivan, aka The Rev, was found dead in his home today, Monday, December 28th. Reports state that Sullivan, who was 28 years old, appears to have died as a result of natural causes. More information can be found here.

Avenged Sevenfold themselves have since offered the following official statement on the matter:

“It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we tell you of the passing today of Jimmy “The Rev” Sullivan. Jimmy was not only one of the world’s best drummers, but more importantly he was our best friend and brother. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Jimmy‘s family and we hope that you will respect their privacy during this difficult time.

Jimmy you are forever in our hearts.
We love you.

    • “Orange County Coroners office was investigating Jimmy Sullivan’s passing, with initial reports suggesting his death was from falling off of his roof while pretending to be Santa Claus, although Christmas had already ended.”

    • How fucked up is this world that someone dies and everyone cracks jokes. Whether you like their music or not there is no need for you to get off on yourself for dogging the death of someone. Who cares if they didn’t use their real names. Slipknot go by numbers, Mudvayne used to have stage names. I see real problems for this next generation coming up. No heart, no class what-so-ever.

    • no way…. is this for real? the rev is dead? wtf… stop hating for one second and have a little respect. who cares what your opinions of the band are. that totally sucks… talented drummer. seemed like a cool guy, too. “natural causes”? eh… rock stars don’t die at 28 of natural causes, but who cares. he will be missed. damn — that ruins my day.

Hate the band, but can’t help but hear a song of theirs here and there. He was a great drummer, probably the bands only redeeming quality. It’s a shame for anyone to go that young, but natural causes, come on. I have to piggy-back on what Mr. Censored said. Maybe Johnny Christ can raise him from the dead, it worked for Lazerus. Dredg is the shit BTW Mr. Censored

    • “R.I.P
Now let’s pray to Johnny Christ that his family will find peace.”
I too found the rest of the jokes to be rather crass, not to mention poor, but this one made me laugh. It’s a real shame, this guy was easily the most talented member of the group. Sounding the Seventh Trumpet was one of the first hardcore/metal albums I listened to as a teenager.

    • Unless less turns out be another ‘Dave Williams’ situation (previously undiagnosed cardiomyopathy), then the odds are good that The Rev’s penchant for the nose candy probably caught up with him.

Long term usage of cocaine causes all kinds of issues – including heart disease, heart attacks, respiratory failure, strokes, seizures, and gastrointestinal problems.

It’s been said already, but 28 year old people don’t drop dead of ‘natural causes’.

Like it or not, that’s the truth regarding the matter. End of story.

Wow I am looking at stupidity.
I believe it’s true indeed that the overdose was an accident. All he wanted was to be a rockstar, he lived his dream, had the best fucking friends in the world, had a beautiful girlfriend, and a loving family. He was living the life. So? He had to take painkillers for his heart. He forgets and drinks alcohol. Shit happens. Get your facts straight before making assumptions. What a shame, the Rev was a talented drummer and a kind man.
It is a sick, sick world for people to joke about the dead. I wonder if that’s the way they want things after they die.
