COMMENTS
chimaira and unearth covers are the best
Go figure Throwdown doing “Becoming” sounds more like a Pantera demo than a cover.
Overall, Machine Head, Chimaira, Unearth, and This Is Hell did the best job for me. MH did a real straightforward cover but, they really delivered. The other 3 I mentioned I enjoyed because their tracks didn’t sound as by-the-numbers as the rest. Didn’t listen to the ballad-y tracks so, I can’t judge them. I’ll check them out when I get a physical copy for sure.
liked unearth and chimaira’s covers as well and this is hell’s was pretty original although i’m not super into them…..but these tribute cds are always lame, a lot of hype to hear a carbon copy of a song. You’d figure if you got the opportunity to do a cover of an awesome band like pantera you’d put a little more thought into making your cover original and worth listening to.
Evile’s cover of Cemetary Gates was pretty good (actually I’ve only heard the first minute or so) and I was surprised when I heard one of their original songs on XM the other day. The singer sounds much more like Tom Araya (the typical thrash sound) but he really pulls off the high notes too.
All vids are down, unsurprisingly.
