    Mastodon To Release Digital “Oblivion” EP Next Week

    Mastodon will be releasing a new digital EP for their song “Oblivion” through iTunes on November 03rd. The effort will feature the following track listing:

    01 – “Oblivion
    02 – “Divinations” (Live at XFM)
    03 – “The Bit” (Live at XFM)
    04 – “Colony Of Birchmen” (Live at XFM)

    Live Footage Of New High On Fire Track Surfaces

    Fan-filmed live footage of High On Fire playing their new track “Frost Hammer” in Calgary, Alberta can be found online below. The song is expected to be featured on the bands upcoming new album, which is due out next year through E1 Music.

  • Slayer are premièring their 20 minute short “Playing With Dolls” exclusively online this weekend. The 12-part piece is a bonus video graphic novel that will appear on the DVD included with the Deluxe Edition of the bands new album, “World Painted Blood“.

    The soundtrack for the short film, which was directed by Mark Brooks (“Metalocalypse“), is comprised of all eleven songs featured on the aforementioned album, as well as a non-album b-side dubbed “Atrocity Vendor“. You can view it below. “World Painted Blood” is due in stores on November 03rd through American/Columbia.

    The Deftones Announce Second Benefit Concert For Chi Cheng

    The Deftones have added a second benefit show for ailing bassist Chi Cheng. The group will now be performing at the Avalon in Hollywood, CA on November 19th and November 20th.

    All proceeds from the event will go to the Chi Ling Cheng Special Needs Trust, which has been setup to help cover the medical costs incurred by Cheng’s accident this past November and his ongoing recovery. A new album from the band is tentatively expected to see a release in February.

    Salt The Wound To Break Up

    Salt The Wound have announced that they plan to call it a day following the completion of their current touring commitments this coming March. The band had the following to say on the matter:

    “Hey everyone, we are officially announcing that as of March 7 Salt the Wound is hanging up the towel, we appreciate everyone’s on going and past support and have alot of people to thank and will be making an official statement delving into more details soon.

    In lieu January 9 will be our last show ever in the United States, after this we will be doing one last tour in Europe with War From A Harlots Mouth and Arsonists Get All The Girls. Stay tuned for more details!”

    Winds Of Plague Stream Misfits Cover Online

    Winds Of Plagues‘ cover of the Misfits track “Halloween” has been made available online in streaming audio form for a limited time here. The song was originally made available as a special bonus track on the iTunes version of the groups latest release, “The Great Stone War“.

  • Trivium’s involvement with the upcoming “God Of War III” videogame has been elaborated on some more. The band recently revealed that they had been in the studio working on a new track inspired by the aforementioned videogame.

    Today, it was announced that an ultimate special edition version of the game is being prepared for a March 2010 release and among the numerous other things, such as bonus levels, art, video footage and more that come with this premium edition, is the “God Of War: Blood And Metal” EP.

    While full details have yet to be revealed, the EP, which will be released as a digital download alongside the game on the day of its release, is described as “a heavy metal homage featuring original music inspired by God Of War.” No word yet on whether or not any other metal artists will be featured on the EP as well
